Down down down

I'm so sick bubbies.  You know those cold medicine commercials that make being sick look fun?  Like their products actually work?  LIEZ.

I don't know when I'll be better.

So just in case you wondered I'm not here.  I'm sleeping, probably.  I already slept all day.  Now I'm off to sleep all night.  After figure skating.  Bai.

11:00 pm Sleeping on the bed! My favorite thing!

Excerpts from a Cat's Diary:
Day 983 of my captivity: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while the other inmates and I are fed hash or some sort of dry nuggets. Although I make my contempt for the rations perfectly clear, I nevertheless must eat something in order to keep up my strength. The only thing that keeps me going is my dream of escape. In an attempt to disgust them, I once again vomit on the carpet. Today I decapitated a mouse and dropped its headless body at their feet. I had hoped this would strike fear into their hearts, since it clearly demonstrates what I am capable of. However, they merely made condescending comments about what a "good little hunter" I am. Bastards! There was some sort of assembly of their accomplices tonight. I was placed in solitary confinement for the duration of the event. However, I could hear the noises and smell the food. I overheard that my confinement was due to the power of "allergies." I must learn what this means, and how to use it to my advantage. Today I was almost successful in an attempt to assassinate one of my tormentors by weaving around his feet as he was walking. I must try this again tomorrow but at the top of the stairs.

I am convinced that the other prisoners here are flunkies and snitches. The dog receives special privileges. He is regularly released and seems to be more than willing to return. He is obviously retarded.

I don't care.

I don't care what Lindsay Lohan does.  Or what Britney does or doesn't wear under her pants.  Or who has gained five pounds or who is pregnant or who changed their hair or who spent millions of dollars on plastic surgery just to look like a freak so they can still feel sexy because their ego is all tied up in what I (or those people in line at the checkout at Wal-Mart) think of them, whether or not I'd do 'em.

I'm boycotting pop culture.

I don't care about the Oscars.

I am sorry that Heath Ledger is dead.  I really liked him.   Hub used to tease me by calling him Candybar Notebook.

But I think it's entirely possible that we put far too much weight on celebrity and fame these days.  In the absense of national royalty or a unifying religious belief, we've substituted the superficial cult of personality for anything meaningful or substantial.  And that's made us weak and superficial and mean.

Old news, old thoughts, old blah blah.

But still.  I'm boycotting.  Join me, or not.  But no more US magazine for me, folks.  What will I read at the gym?  I don't know.  I'll think of something.

Politics? Whaaaa?

As much as I like the idea of a female president, it does slightly disturb me that if Hillary wins the election, the country will have been under the obvious control of the same two families for twenty-four years. As it is now, we're just at twenty.

Random fifteen songs from the old iPod.

I didn't get tagged, but I am the biggest sucker for these things, you know.  All of these songs hit some kind of emotional autobiographical note for me, but no worries, I won't bore you with the details.  It's always more fun when you get to make up your own stories anyway.  Make it interesting, if you do.  :) (And there's even one from our lovely lady digitalburning.  Buzzlove.)

1. Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love - They Might Be Giants

"Done someone wrong
And I fear that it was me."

2. The Killing Moon - Nouvelle Vague

"Fate
Up against your will
Through the thick and thin"

3. Angry Johnny - Poe

"Johnny, Angry Johnny, this is Jezebel in Hell
I wanna kill you, I wanna blow you...away"

4. How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead

"I'm not here
this isn't happening."

5. Ain't No Sunshine - Bill Withers

"Ain't no sunshine when he's gone
And this house just ain't no home anytime he goes away. "

6. Question - Old 97's

"Someday, somebody's gonna ask you
A question that you should say yes to
Once in your life
Baby, tonight I've got a question for you"

7. Girl Disappearing - Tori Amos

"Riding on backs of palominos
Primed for an attack
It's as good
As good as it gets"

8. Don't Know What You Got til it's Gone - Cinderella

"I can't give you back what's been hurt
Heart aches come and go and
All that's left are the words
I can't let go"

9. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin

"There's a sign on the wall
But she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings"

10. track 02, songs no one cares about - Alicia Wade

Floaty loveliness without words, from the brain of Digitalburning.

11. Sunshine - Knights of the Raj

Total workout hits, like, OMG.

12. Fast As You Can - Fiona Apple

"I may be soft in your palm but Ill soon grow
Hungry for a fight, and I will not let you win
My pretty mouth will frame the phrases that will
Disprove your faith in man"

13. I Put a Spell on You - Nina Simone

"I love ya
I love you
I love you
I love you anyhow
And I dont care
If you dont want me
Im yours right now"

14. A Little Rain - Tom Waits

"She was 15 years old
And never seen the ocean
She climbed into a van
With a vagabond
And the last theing she said
Was, "I love you mom.""

15. We'll Meet Again - Johnny Cash

"We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when,
But I know we'll meet again, some sunny day.
Keep smiling through, just like you always do,
'Til the blue skies drive the dark clouds far away."

---

Thanks everyone who wished me happy birthday.  Much loves.  Now I'm off to eat the things with the people.  :)

GRAMMAR WOARS. ROUND 1.

They're vs. There.

There is an adverb meaning "that location." It is sometimes used with the verb to be as an idiom. It is spelled like here which means "this location."

They're is a contraction of they are. Note the spelling: The a from are is replaced by an apostrophe.

There are no winners.  Only people who don't make me want to use my IQ gun.

I wish I really had an IQ gun.   That would be cool.

It's okay if you don't like me.

I don't like me either.

I could rip myself down to the bones right now.

Some people cut on the outside, I take myself down from inside.

That doesn't make it any less lame.

Like I said.

I don't like me either.

November 10, 2007

32 songs, 32 years.

Meme from Miss Newageamazon!  I tried to pick the songs most representative of strong memories.  And I justified them!

1974:  The Most Beautiful Girl, Charlie Rich (my dad used to sing this to me)
1975:  Rhinestone Cowboy, Glen Campbell (I liked rhinestones. And cowboys.)
1976:  Let Your Love Flow, Bellamy Brothers
1977:  Lucille, Kenny Rogers (we knew someone named Lucille.  I thought that was funny at the time.)
1978:  Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue, Crystal Gayle (my mom sang this song)
1979:  The Gambler, Kenny Rogers (dear country music, you're depressing. love, four year old me.)
1980:  The Rose, Bette Midler (first song I learned to play on the piano)
1981:  For Your Eyes Only, Sheena Easton (This song was playing when I threw a stuffed animal with a wind up key at my brother and nearly put his eye out, my mom was vacuuming...)
1982:  Private Eyes, Daryl Hannah and John Oates (rollerskates, gold hot pants... long story)
1983:  Beat It, Michael Jackson (ubiquitous that year)
1984:  99 Luftballons, Nena (my first long trip away from home with the dance troup)
1985:  Shout, Tears for Fears (my first "pop" song whilst laying out tanning with the girls)
1986:  Sledgehammer, Peter Gabriel (first MTV exposure)
1987:  Luka, Suzanne Vega
1988:  Sweet Child O' Mine, Guns N' Roses (first rock n' roll sex god experience)
1989:  What I am, Edie Brickell and The New Bohemians (are you what you are or what?)
1990:  Epic, Faith No More (flopping fish on the piano)
1991:  Losing My Religion, R.E.M. (I lost my religion for good that year)
1992:  Smells Like Teen Spirit, Nirvana (well, it did.)
1993:  Insane in the Brain:  Cypress Hill
1994:  Loser, Beck (oh, Beck, you skinny little cute boy)
1995:  Self Esteem, The Offspring (driving in my Elvis the Chevette)
1996:  1979, The Smashing Pumpkins (driving in my Roxie the RX7)
1997:  Tubthumping, Chumbawumba (making pizza, customer friendly!)
1998:  Adia, Sarah McLachlan (it was a strange bittersweet year...)
1999:  Livin' La Vida Loca, Ricky Martin (it started out as a joke when we played it at our wedding... now it's part of my life.  oops.)
2000: The Real Slim Shady, Eminem
2001: Drops of Jupiter, Train (it has to do with soy lattes and working at Starbucks) and Only Time, Enya (2001 was a bad year...)
2002: Get The Party Started, Pink (I sang this to Cosmo before he was born.  I know, I'm weird.)
2003:  Get Busy, Sean Paul
2004:  Milkshake, Kelis (because the sparkle chick at work told me it was "hot")
